Tesla Dominates UK Mega Battery Market Amid Political Tensions
Tesla's Megapack batteries have secured a commanding position in Britain's energy storage sector, with 20 of the country's 182 grid-scale projects utilizing its technology. These installations represent 695 megawatts of capacity, 16 of which are actively traded by Tesla itself—giving the company unprecedented influence over electricity flows.
The firm's dual role as supplier and trader has proven lucrative. Between October 2024 and October 2025, Tesla's UK battery operations generated £52 million in revenue, averaging £91,364 per megawatt. Remarkably, 16 of the top 20 performing battery units belong to Tesla's portfolio.
This commercial success comes despite public clashes with UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who recently told Elon Musk to "get the hell out of our politics." The tension stems from Musk's criticism of British energy policies on his social media platform X. Yet Tesla's market position appears unshaken, quietly reshaping how renewable energy is stored and distributed across Britain's power grid.
